Meeting: Butterflies of the Southern Amazonia Rain Forest with Fred Heath.

location:

Wednesday, October 10, 2012
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Although the bird diversity in the Amazon rain forest is high, it does not begin to compare with the butterfly diversity in the same area. At a single site in the state of Rondonia, Brazil which has habitats from open cattle pastures to primary rain forest, 1800 species of butterflies have been recorded. Join Fred Heath as he shows a sampling of some of these spectacular butterflies and other creatures of the Southern Amazonia rain forests of Peru and Brazil. Learn how army ants and the associated antbirds provide a key link which helps to support many butterflies. Meeting will be held 7-9pm, at Papago Buttes Church of the Brethren, 2450 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 (On the NW corner of Oak and 64th St. (This is about a mile north of the Desert Botanical Garden)
